Home Exchange in Austria – Discover the Many Wonders of AustriaTake a closer look at a great mix of unique architectural attraction, experience genuine country life and have an unforgettable visit on some of the world’s most famous concert halls – experience these and more when you visit Austria. 1. Famous Concert Halls in Vienna – some of the world’s greatest classical composers – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert and Johann Strauss – were born or have lived in Vienna, the world’s center for Classical Music. So in your visit to Austria, touring the city’s famous concert halls should be on top of your list. 2. Hofburg Palace – this imperial palace is located in the city of Vienna and serves as the official residence of Austria’s President. The palace also houses three museums that tourists can explore – the Imperial Apartments Museum, the Sisi Museum and the Imperial Silver Collection Museum. 3. Innsbruck Altstadt – go explore the ‘Old Town’! Altstadt in Innsbruck has a unique mix of medieval and modern architecture. The town is situated in an urban city with the snow-capped alpine range on its background. So when you are in Altstadt, you will be transported in an era where nature, medieval structures and modern buildings co-exist perfectly. You should also take time to visit the town’s Golden Dachl or the Golden Roof – the most photographed building in the city of Innsbruck. 4. Schönbrunn Palace – this tourist destination is situated a little bit outside the city, but is definitely worth the trip. Not only will you be amazed by the interior of the palace, you’ll also enjoy exploring the beautiful lush garden and park outside. What You Should Try While In Austria1. A ride on Austria’s Railway – if you want to see the splendour of Austria’s mountain sceneries, take a ride on the 100-year-old Wendelstein Rack Railway. The train’s final destination is the 1838-metre summit peak, and on the way to the peak, you will go through 7 tunnels and across 12 bridges while seeing an unending expanse of mountainous beauty the entire time. 2. Step into the ‘Sound of Music’ valley – if you’ve seen the classic musical movie “The Sound of Music” you would definitely enjoy touring the St. Glen village where Maria sings her first few lines. Other must-visit attractions in Salzburg include the Mirabell Gardens, St. Peter’s Monastery and the Salzburg Cathedral. 3. A Viennese Waltz – the classic Waltz originated in Vienna. So if you set foot in Austria, you should at least do some waltzing on one of the many Vienna ballroom houses. If you’re not familiar with the dance, locals are always happy to help you learn the oldest and most romantic of ballroom dances. 4. Yodelling – in a time with no cellular phones and internet, people from one village look for ways to communicate with neighbouring villages. This is where yodelling started. Since Austria’s villages are back dropped with high hills and mountains, a yodel can echo and reach a village of closer proximity. Try yodelling in your visit to Austria or hear an authentic yodel from villagers or tourist restaurants. Yodel-ay-he-hoo indeed! 5. Food and Drinks – if you have already tried the Apple strudel pastry, try it again while in Austria. Everything just tastes better in their authentic versions. You may also want to try the Sachertorte cake and the Wiener Schnitzels. As for drinks, Austria has some very lovely thirst- quenching beverages to offer. Fun fact: Red Bull originated in Austria. So when touring Austria, make sure you visit the places above and try some of the things we have listed in our Home Exchange in Austria guide.
