House Swap in Europe

Although it is the world's second smallest continent by surface area (only Australia is smaller then Europe), Europe is probably the most important part of the world when House Swap is considered. That  the size does not really matter proves also the fact that although Russia is by far the biggest country out of all about 50 European countries Home Exchange in Russia does not play any significant role on the map of the World Home Exchange. The most important players on the European House Swap market are such countries as France, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Germany, Greece and Turkey. Not surprisingly the most swap opportunities in the UK are found in England, followed by Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and British Channel Islands . Of the continental Europe the biggest  offer can be found in Spain, Catalonia being the biggest exchange partner -- Catalunya (Catalan), Cataluña (Spanish),Catalonha (Occitan). Of course, the most popular travel destination in Catalonia is Barcelona with hundreds of apartments and houses offered as holiday rentals and/or exchanges. Catalonia is followed by a plethora of home swop offers from such popular Spanish tourist destinations as Andalucia, Madrid, and Valencian Community -- Comunidad Valenciana (Spanish), Comunitat Valenciana (Valencian). If you consider France, most home swap partners can be found in the province of Ile-de-France with Paris being the main exchange centre and tourist attraction. In fact Paris is probably the most popular travel destination of all European cities, Barcelona, Spain and London England being farther contenders. This is also reflected by the number of listings in category home exchange. Other European cities like Rome, Venice, or Florence bring Italy to the forefront of the most popular countries on the map of Home Swap in Europe. In Germany Berlin is the city with the most offers. Interestingly, the relatively small country of Denmark is also at the top of European countries with most home swop offers, Copenhagen of course, being the main exchange centre. The offers  in Turkey and Poland are not centred in one most popular city but are dispersed across a number of biggest cities. These two countries close the list of most popular European travel destinations among home swappers. On the other end of the spectrum are Macedonia, Cyprus, Albania, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania where this kind of travel does not seem to be very popular yet.
