After Germany’s unification Berlin became the country's capital again. The famous Branderburg Gate used to divide the East and the West part of the city. You can still see the remnants of the Berlin Wall that became the symbol of the iron curtain that used to divide Europe into two separate areas from the end of World War II in 1945 until the end of the Cold War in 1991. The city is known for its many parks. A lot of political history spanning generations exists alongside popular nightlife and the arts. Located on the banks of the Rhine River, Düsseldorf invits you for walks along its Promenade, shopping on the Königsallee boulevard, visiting plenty of art galleries, and beer tasting at the many pubs of Old Town. Not far from, Düsseldorf is the other well know city of North Rhine-Westphalia -- Cologne (Köln) -- Germany's fourth-largest city. It is probably best known for Cologne Cathedral "Kölner Dom". This architectural masterpieces was declared as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site . With about six million annual visitors the country's largest Cathedral is also Germany's most popular architectural monument. Automobile enthusiast are invited to Stuttgart to visit museums of the famed car manufacturers of Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. Remember Nuremberg? This medieval city with cobblestone squares, and Gothic churches was the home of the post war Nuremberg Trials. Do not forget to visit interesting places of the former East Germany Cities like Lipzig, Potsdam, Schwerin, or Rostock, are also rich in history, art and architecture.
