The House of the Clay Buddha is situated in the hamlet of Las Chinas in the Parque Natural de Aracena y los Picos de Aroche, in the province of Huelva in Andalucia. Due to its micro-climate, the park, which lies in the foothills of the Sierra Morena, is green even in summer.
Stone, wood and adobe are the main materials used in the construction of the house, which has been sensitively restored. Mosaics and numerous artistic touches enhance the beauty of the house. The ochre and russet tones used in the decor and the rooms which are on different levels, create a charming, restful atmosphere. Behind the house, near the kitchen, there is a garden where one can dine in the open air and enjoy the views and the pristine air of the Sierra. The house has a living room with a dining area, kitchen bathroom and two bedrooms, both with double beds. One of the bedrooms has an adjoining salon/studio in the same area but on a different level. The living room has a cozy fireplace and a gas heater, while there are electric heaters in the bedrooms. Board games, books in English and Spanish, linen, towels, crockery and kitchen utensils are all provided. There is also a television (Spanish channels only) and a barbecue outside. Las Chinas is in the centre of the Park in a green valley through which flows the Murtiga River. It is fifteen minutes' walk across the fields from the nearest village, Galaroza, and fifteen minutes' drive from Aracena, the biggest town (pop. 7,000). All the villages and towns in the parks are interconnected by a network of footpaths and tracks perfect for walking or horse-riding. Situated in a tiny village in the beautiful Sierra de Aracena in western Andualucia, an hour's drive from Seville. |
