My Saint Martin flat is located in the Saint-Martin area (10th arrondissement) just in front of the Stalingrad metro station. It is one of Paris' hidden delights: a little-touristed area, built around the Canal Saint-Martin running through the northeastern districts of the Right Bank. The 5km (3mi) waterway, parts of which are higher than the surrounding land, was built in 1806 to link the Seine with the much longer Canal de l'Ourcq. Its shaded towpaths - specked with sunlight filtering through the plane trees - are a wonderful place for a romantic stroll or bike ride past locks, metal bridges and unassuming but well turned-out Parisian neighbourhoods.
This area is the melting pot of the real Paris - more than 60 different ethnic backgrounds make it one of the liveliest, warmest, welcoming and attracting district of Paris: Belleville and its markets, featuring African and Asian specialities, the artist's ateliers, the antiquarians, the Canal Saint-Martin with its 1930s atmosphere (departure station for tourist-boats), la Villette, one of the largest and most innovative scientific and cultural centers in the world, the Park of Buttes Chaumont, for a breath of fresh air against a breathtaking backdrop, the Park of Belleville located at the climax of Paris and offering a panoramic point of view on the capital and 4, 5 hectares of gardens.
The Stalingrad Place with its elevated subway is a knot of metro and bus transportation, at 10 mn from Sacre-Coeur, 20 mn from Charles de Gaulles-Étoile and Saint-Michel, 30 mn from the Eiffel Tower, 40 mn from Charles de Gaulle Airport and 60 mn from Orly Airport, and Euro-Disney.
If you are hungry and want to taste the Asian cuisine (Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese) or North African, and Jews, then the genuine articles can be found at just 3 metro stops in the Belleville, one of the major Asian area in Paris. Passage Brady otherwise called "Passage to the Orient" with its South Asian restaurants and scented shops is only 10 mn away. And of course you will have the choice of the Italian and/or French cuisine in the neighbourhood!
The flat is located at the 3rd floor of a XIX century building. It has been recently repainted and redecorated. It features wooden floors and double windows in a sunny, quiet and safe atmosphere. The living room has a sofa-bed, TVcable , VCR, and table for six. The bedroom has a double bed, an armoire and wooden shelves, a small library of videos and books in French, English and Italian, and a computer corner with unlimited High Speed Internet and DVD.
