This Retreat House is ideal for writers/photographers/meditators/hermits and the views are stunning and we FINALLY have wifi sufficient that you can stream a movie, watch You Tube, conference Skype calls and work from home if you have that sort of work. Both mountains and the valley are seen from any window in the house.
The house is beautifully appointed with an Asian motif and is quite comfortable for a single person or couple. The house is fenced so that pets are protected from the animals of prey that abound here AND so that we can enjoy the meadow like garden from the hammock swing in the summer. One thing that is immediately obvious when you stay here is the Quiet. The second thing that becomes obvious is the brilliance of the night sky and the frequent sightings of shooting stars and the Milky Way. Nor will you want to miss the two most exciting times of day pre-dawn and twilight... even when they are so spectacular there is something that is soothing about these times of day. While there is little reason to leave a cozy abode as this and catching up on years worth of reading, you'll really have to check out the three natural hot springs within half hour drive from here. The STABLES are within walking distance of my house and their rates very reasonable. Needless to say with three fourteeners in the back yard, there's plenty of serious hiking for all levels of hikers. For such a small town - about 700 year round with a swell of visitors in the summer - there is quite a bit to do. In town there is a small but interesting museum about our history here as an old mining town and many of the building are still standing. There is a small library, a credit union as of 5 years now, a mercantile store as of 2 years now and several galleries which is wonderful since every other resident here seems to an artist of one type or other. Crestone also has a bit of fame with its summer Music Festival and Gem Fairs, Art, Fairs, Story-telling events, etc. The other area of fame is in the spiritual centers arena - there's twenty three of them and just about every spiritual tradition you can think of. Straw-bale houses and off the grid architecture abounds and there is even Paul Shippee's Solar School held every summer. The closest stop light? Sixty miles away and we want to keep it that way. BTW, I'm having trouble uploading photos of my place but if you search for airbnb and in the Location Field type in Crestone, CO you'll find my listing as Retreat House in High Rockies (or some header like that) and there are loads of pics of the house and the area |
