We have a lovely, modern home on a very pleasant development, extremely convenient for the city of Derby and the local road and rail network. The house sleeps four people in comfort between three bedrooms, and of course has every modern facility as well as a charming garden for sunny summer days. We also have a lovely friendly black and white cat, Mitzi. She’d love to be with you and be your friend – all you have to do is give her some food and some cuddles – but of course we’d be very willing to put her in kennels if you really don’t like animals
If you’re interested in a car swap as well (we usually do this when we visit the USA) ours is a 2006 Suzuki SX4 (Mini SUV) with stickshift Though we’ve included below some of the more important details of our area, it’s impossible to include everything as there are over three hundred possible “visits” within a 30 mile radius of our home, which are all listed in our local “What to Do” guide. Overall, though, one of the very best things about our offer – apart from the loveliness of Derbyshire itself – is our absolutely ideal position, right in the centre of the country. This means that our visitors are able to make the very most of their time here, seeing not only the best of Derbyshire, but many other areas as well – the 38 families we’ve swapped with so far have found it ideal, the only complaint being that one visit is never enough to see it all!. We warmly hope it might be possible for us to arrange an exchange, and of course would be more than happy to help out with any further information you might need. In the meantime, we look forward with pleasure to hearing from you. Every good wish from --- Alan & Lynn Mitchell Alan is 54 and a retired Headteacher; Lynn is 52 and owns her own recruitment company THE HOUSE Lovely, modern family home with garage, sleeping four people in comfort between three bedrooms. Beautifully furnished, with full central heating and double glazing. There is a pretty garden, with pond, patio and furniture. The house has all the usual appliances, including double oven, hob and microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, fridge and freezer, two TV’s, video, Hi-fi and power shower. The house is in a quiet position, at the top of a small cul-de-sac. Excellent local amenities are within easy walking distance – shops, leisure centre, sports centre, church, doctor & dentist, pubs, restaurants and bus service. Oakwood itself is a very attractive, well planned, quiet residential area, only 2 miles from Derby city centre. We keep a “Housefile” for all of our guests, including details of everything in the house and area. There is far too much to see and do to include everything here, but some of the more important items are listed below --- DERBY Lovely county town of Derbyshire, ideally located in the very centre of England and only 20 miles from the beautiful Peak District National Park. Excellent road and rail connections with the rest of England. Derby itself has a huge number of attractions, including --- Large variety of shops, with pedestrianised centre and mall; Beautiful cathedral; 2 multi screen cinemas; Several lovely parks; Extensive sports facilities; Heritage Centre; Major theatre; Excellent museums; Two concert halls; Great restaurants and nightlife; Excellent Tourist Information Centre. Derby is also the home of Rolls Royce, Toyota and Royal Crown Derby Porcelain, which can be visited by arrangement. DERBYSHIRE – INCLUDING PEAK NATIONAL PARK Exquisite countryside; visitors come from all over the world --- Many lovely historic mansions and manor houses --- Gracious, interesting old towns and pretty villages --- Beautiful river valleys; we call them “dales” --- Lovely high moorland area, the “High Peak” --- Extensive lakeland area, with watersports, etc --- Huge limestone caves area, with conducted tours --- Wonderful area for walking and picnics, with many miles of marked trails --- Excellent cycling area; bikes for hire near the best routes --- Outdoor concerts held throughout the summer --- Dressing of wells with flowers in summer, an ancient custom unique to the area --- Lovely fetes held in villages in summer --- Several major countryside shows held throughout the year --- Wonderful old country inns, with excellent food and local beer --- Three steam railway centres --- Numerous historical and cultural centres --- Fascinating stone circle from Neolithic times --- Large variety of factory and speciality shops, selling distinctive local produce --- Several major theme parks, including Alton Towers, a very major attraction. We very much hope that you will choose to come here, where you will live amongst some of the friendliest people in England, and be able to enjoy it all as much as we do ourselves. |
