Additional information: |
The neighborhood, El Puente de Segovia, or The Segovia Bridge, is within easy walking distance of the Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral, or 10 minutes by bus, if you prefer. It’s beside the Casa de Campo, originally the royal hunting grounds, now the city’s largest public park, and also boasts the church of San Antonio de la Florida, whose ceilings are the work of the Golden Age master, Francisco de Goya.
Today, the area is also well known as part of Madrid Rio, the city’s new leisure project, some 15 kilometers of riverside walks and parks with a wide range of activities for children and adults.
Though just 10 minutes from the centre, with excellent bus and metro links, this is in fact a typical Madrid “barrio”, with its busy market, its small shops, bars and restaurants, and its own local flavour. There are wonderful little places for everything from tapas to a full meal, all at great prices and with friendly service.
