Bishkek is the green and leafy capital city of Kyrgyzstan and has many western amenities. We are in the South end of town close to the 4000+ meter glacial peaks of the Kyrgyz Alatau range. There is huge potential for trekking, rock climbing (both sport and alpine), horseback riding, paragliding, mountain biking and whatever activities you can think of in wide-open alpine foothills just outside of town. Al-Archa National
Park is a 20 minute drive from the house.

It is inexpensive to buy groceries and local items in Bishkek and there are many fascinating markets and bazaars as well as western-style grocery stores and shopping malls. A variety of different cuisines are available throughout the city from normal North American prices to extremely inexpensive. On any given street there are Shashlyk cafes that sell delicious kebabs.

While in Kyrgyzstan, you can make trips from Bishkek for guided or independent horseback or hiking treks in the mountains, traditional yurt-stays, or top-notch alpine activities. Kyrgyzstan has peaks over 7000m. Lake Issyk-Kul is a short drive away and boasts warm weather, sandy beaches, and amazing views of the mountains on both shores.
