Our street is called Gartenstrasse (Garden Street) because it runs along the Neckar River and for most of the street one can walk (or bike ride) along the river. The area is quiet and the town is only 15-25 minutes away by foot, 10 minutes by bike or 5 minutes by bus. The bus stop is very near. Our house is set up on a hill and in our garden you can pick red and white wine grapes, apples, plums, cherries, berries, and herbs. From the kitchen you can see our unique backyard which is a very large hill consisting of 10 tiered levels supported by old stone walls with stone steps going all the way up. The living room and main bedroom both have walkout balconies for sitting or dining. We also have a patio for outdoor dining (seats 8). Description of 4 Bedrooms: * large main bedroom with walkout balcony with views onto the Schwäbisch Alb (sleeps 2) * child's bedroom with 2 single beds (sleeps 2) * guest bedroom (sleeps 2) * guest bedroom (sleeps 2) * travel baby crib * children's toys, bikes for a 2-4 year old, a bike trailer and 2 adult bikes We have a couple living below us (separate entrance) and neighbors who speak some English. Tuebingen Description: small steps, narrow alleys and pointed gables shape of the inner (car-free section) city of Tubingen which dates back to 1078 A.D., remarkably well-preserved since the 1600's. Located in the "Swabisch Alb": full of nature, castles and more. The city of Tuebingen has its own castle, a medieval-type centre, numerous sidewalk cafes, wine taverns, special shops, and restaurants. In summer, one should take a boat trip in a famous "Stocherkahn" – a boat exclusive to Tübingen navigated by a long wooden pole (think of Venice)– which offers a scenic view of the picturesque Neckar waterfront with the famous Hölderlin Tower or go take the bikes along the river to the "Freibad": for 3 Euro's you can spend the day swimming in the adults pools, kiddie pools, with waterfalls, slides, or just laying on the grass with views of the alb and vineyards. During any season, take a walk on the "Neckarinsel" ("Neckar Island"), famous for its beautifully-lined high plane trees, some of which are more than 200 years old. Or visit the surrounding local region. At Christmas time, enjoy the beautiful Christmas markets in almost every town, including Tuebingen. Within a 10 minute drive or bike ride is Bebenhausen with its former Cistercian abbey from the year 1187 surrounded by lots of hiking and nature or beautiful swimming pools. A 20 minute to 1 hour drive takes you to Stuttgart (Airport, Mercedes Benz Museum, Zoo and more), two famous castles--Hohlenzollern and Lichenstein, the Black Forest (Schwarzwald), the border of Switzerland and many, many other wonderful things. Within 1 - 2 1/2 hour driving distance to: Black Forest, Munich, wine and castle route (Romantic Rhine), Heidelberg, Alsace (France), Alps of Switzerland and Zurich, Austria, Lake Constance. Can get cheap direct flights to many parts of Europe (see skyscanner). |
