Our flat is a small, cosy home with Mediterranean charm and a truly superb location. The flat is situated in the "Carré d'Or" near Hotel Negresco, two main streets from the Promenade des Anglais, and its beach (5mn walk), only 10mn walk from the old city centre of Nice and from the train station. The airport is at 15min by bus (stop at the Promenade des Anglais) or by train (stop at Nice St Augustin). The flat is close to many local shops, bakery, and supermarkets and has a free street parking.
The flat is a 60's common Mediterranean building in a very quiet area with a lovely view on gardens and old architectural buildings. It includes a small open-plan kitchen, a luminous large living room with flat screen television and a sofabed, a lovely balcony with black cast iron table and chairs, and a small bathroom recently renovated including a washmachine. In addition to this floor, the inside of the flat also contains 1 large double bedroom on a mezzanine. We have hi-speed internet access and air-conditioning.
Nice is a lovely city in Summer, offering leisure of both the sea and the mountains (1h drive). Nice is also close to Monaco, Antibes, Juan-Les-Pins and Cannes (15-20 min by train). Many villages as Grasse, Vence, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Eze, etc. can be reached by bus or train. Nice also offers plenty of musical festivals during the summer season, shops, gastronomic restaurants and bars.

Many events punctuate life in Nice. One of the most important part of life in the Azurean capital is the Festival du Jazz de Nice (Nice Jazz Festival IN JULY). Every year, this event attracts musicians from all four corners of the globe.

The old part of town has a good atmosphere both by day and night. By strolling through the little lanes, walkers discover the city’s history and all sorts of small boutiques and restaurants.

In addition to the Old Nice Quarter, a place where you absolutely must visit the small regional stores.
Rue Jean Médecin also has many shops of all kinds. Halfway down the road, comes across the large «Nice Etoile» shopping centre.
Near Place Masséna, running at right angles to Rue Jean Médecin, there is a pedestrian precinct: Rue de France has several shops and some restaurants.
Other "musts" to visit are the "Marché aux Fleurs" (flower market) and the Cours Saleya fruit, vegetable and fish market.

Nice is a city rich in culture which derives from history and its illustrious inhabitants, such as Matisse. Guided visits or self-guided tour through the town help visitors to appreciate the city’s development and discover the historic buildings which have marked these moments, such as the Château ruins, the Cimiez Arenas, the Roman fortress to the North of the city, the Promenade des Anglais with the Hôtel Negresco, not forgetting place Masséna, the Acropolis, Cours Saleya and Cathédrale Sainte Réparate… Cathédrale Saint Nicolas is in the Russian district. The city has numerous museums dedicated to diverse subjects.
The Tera Amata Museum built on an archaeological site, goes back to prehistorical times and will take you on a journey down the ages. The Asian Arts Museum, the Masséna Museum, the Matisse Museum, the Musée national Marc Chagall, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC), the Villa Arson.

There are many restaurants in Old Nice. The little streets often conceal excellent cafés, including some places specialising in Niçoise haute cuisine. For instance, Cour Saleya has a wide variety of restaurants for all tastes: sea food, pasta, pizza and little farcis...

The City of Nice has several green spaces, such as the jardin Albert 1er, the Hanging Gardens of Paillon, the Cimiez Monastery Gardens and the gardens at the Cimiez Arenas… You can also walk in the park at the Château de Nice and the Mont-Boron forest park. At Castel des Deux Rois, there are play areas providing families with a pleasant setting in which to relax. Finally, you must not miss Parc Phoenix. This area is home to one of the largest tropical greenhouses in the world. There are also botanical gardens and temporary exhibitions.

For hiking, there is nothing better than the Parc du Mercantour. As protected national park, this fantastic place harbours a wide variety of plants and animal species. It is not unusual to see a chamois or a marmot on the mountainside, and if you are really lucky, or unlucky, depending on how you look at it, wolves and eagles.

About Home Exchange Owners :
I am a medical lawyer in Nice. I enjoy hiking in the mountains of the French Riviera, spending good time in quiet spaces and discovering nice pubs. I spent few weeks in London and in Bath and I particularly loved the countryside. I wish to spend more time in the UK this summer and have the wonderful opportunity to see an other foreign place: Scotland. Ideally, I would be able to exchange my flat during the two last weeks of July.

During my holidays, I will be accompanied by Mickael, a researcher who actually lives in Bath and shares the same interests than I.

I have already exhanged my home when I visited Ireland including 5 years ago, Berlin and Amsterdam 2 years ago and Sevilla one year ago.
Each experience has been very positive.
