COMFORTABLE HOUSE IN FRENCH BASQUE SEASIDE TOWN
We live in a three storey semi-detached house near the beach (5 min. walk). There are five bedrooms, a double king size bed in the main one and single beds in the others. The kitchen is fully fitted and the living room is quite large (30 m2). We are happy to let our guest family use of all our house appliances (TV, DVD, computer…). The guest family may also use our second car (a Reanult Clio). The garden is quite large but is on a slope, there is a terrace area with a table to sit outdoors next to the kitchen door which we use as our main entrance. We have table tennis and table football in the garage.
Hendaye is a seaside town of 15000 inhabitants on the border with Spain. The sandy beach is very long (nearly 3 km) and is within walking distance of the house. There is a wide choice of bars and restaurants, bakeries, patisseries ans a small supermarket around the beach. There are other bigger supermarkets in Hendaye but it’s best to drive to them. People in Hendaye often do their main shopping in Spain as prices are generally cheaper.
The climate is temperate, summer temperatures do not generally go above 25 degrees. The beach in Hendaye is very popular with tourists and day trippers from both sides of the border but as it is so big there is always plenty of space for everyone. It is a very safe beach for children as the undercurrent is not very strong. The waves are long and good for surfing, there are several surfing schools.
From Hendaye you may visit the French and Spanish Basque Country, places like St Jean de Luz, Biarritz or San Sebastian are well worth a visit. There is a little ferry that sails every 20 min from Hendaye to the Spanish Basque town of Hondarribia across the Txingudi estuary which is a nature reserve, it only costs 1,50€ and in Hondarribia you will find a much wider choice of tapas, restaurants and so on.
