Beware of Scams
A Major Terrorist Attack on the 2012 London Olympics?
According to newsoftheworld.co.uk AL-QAEDA is plotting a major terrorist attack on the 2012 London Olympics.
Some Islamic websites claim that a "dirty bomb" which combines radioactive material with conventional explosives is planned to be used to disrupt the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Some others suggest an attack similar to 2008 Mumbai atrocities. There are also growing concerns over an attack using chemical, biological, and other kinds of weapons...
On the other hand, according to www.wsws.org "the threat of terrorism at the 2012 London Olympics is being hyped up in order to justify a vast increase in the surveillance powers of the British state"
Renting Home in London Costs £20,000 a Year
As reported by Ruth Bloomfield at www.thisislondon.co.uk rental prices in London continue to climb despite the recession. The annual price of renting an average home in the city has just broken the £20,000. The highest cost of rent has been noted in Kensington and Chelsea, where the cost of renting an average home is set as £3,482 a month or almost £42,000 a year. London-wide, average rents have risen from £1,650 a month in March last year to £1,685 today. The statistics show that rents are rising fastest for larger units. For a five-bedroom house, the average monthly rent is £4,660 which is £400 higher then last year. The 2012 Summer Olympics has also driven price increases in east London.
Stay in Essex during the Olympics 2012
Essex county is a perfect area to look for accommodation during 2012 London Olympic an Paralympic Games. To start with, the price is going to be much lower then anywhere in London. Not to mention the scarcity of London accommodation. Secondly, a reasonable distance and excellent transport links, not to mention the wide selection of all types of accommodation that fits all tastes and budgets. The Essex accommodation options encompasses Bed and Breakfasts, Guest Houses, Hotels and Inns, Camping, and more...
Essex offers a choice of two airports for visitors to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Stansted Airport is the third busiest airport in England, with flights to over 160 destinations worldwide. Southend Airport is much smaller but it offers a whole range of charter services and air taxis. Helicopters are very likely to run from this airport directly to the services of Olympic Park during the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2012.
Wanted Volunteers for London Summer Olympics 2012
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) is looking for about 70,000 volunteers to perform such duties as welcome desk staff, ticket checkers, drivers and event stewards, costume assistants, etc. Applications are accepted until midnight of October 27th this year. Aplicants need to be team players "who show the same qualities as the athletes including dedication, focus and grace under pressure" ( Sebastian Coe, chairman LOCOG)
Olympic Accommodation Pricing
There is a growing concern about the anticipated increase of accommodation pricing during the Olympics. Hotel industry experts are warning accommodation providers to think carefully before raising accommodation prices in an attempt to make as much money as possible during the few days of Olympics events. There is a growing tendency for accommodation providers to cash in on a perceived windfall but there side effect of that could be a long term damage done to inbound UK tourism. If accommodation prices begin to soar, prospective visitors will perceive the UK as an expensive destination. They will not return, neither will their friends or relatives. This is something to consider when deciding for the Olympic accommodation pricing. The short term gain may seriously affect the long term business.
Shortage of Value for Money Accommodation during the Olympics
London's
Olympic Games of 2012 is expected to be a premier sports
game extravaganza. This offers excellent
marketing opportunities for all kind of businesses. Hundreds of events will be held in London in the summer of 2012 to coincide with the London Olympics. However, According to TSNN News the organizers of Olympic events are being warned about the expected
shortage of value for money accommodation in the London area. Therefore the organizers should aim at securing accommodation early and arranging
smooth transfers of people to and from the venue. A special attention is given for the needed transportation to move people all over the city. Rail systems and buses, not to mention cabs, are expected to operate at extreme
capacity.
Almost two million people have already signed up for the tickets to the 2012 Olympic Games
The 2012 Olympic Games organizers plan to raise over £500 million from the sale of the tickets to the public. The tickets will go on sale on March 15, 2011 -- 500 days before the games begin. As of end of December 2010 almost 2 million people are already lined up for the tickets. Initially the sale will go on for 40 days. But the demand for tickets is great and the event organizers are optimistic to fill up all the venues with the next waves of sales, probably in the early 2012. By not releasing tickets too early, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) hopes to minimize the chances of tickets being sold on the black market.
What are the protected Games' Marks?
Below is an excerpt from the website http://www.london2012.com regarding their trade mark protection:

Olympic Game Lanes
During the winter Olympic Games in Vancouver there were a number of
streets in the city with dedicated lanes for Olympic vehicles only. I
remember that the traffic was terrible as a number of streets were also
totally blocked for any traffic and all the cards had to use just the
few remaining streets. As I had to commute daily to and from
Vancouver downtown I was often stuck in traffic. It was frustrating to
have one line next to you that was practically empty when you had to sit
in a traffic jam. That caused me often to jump over to the "forbidden"
lane to quickly get out of the jammed area. I was caught three times
doing that but each time the police officer was only giving me a warning
and letting me go without a fine. I guess they had more important
things to wary about.
It does not seem to be the case in London 2012. The so called "Games Lanes" will
run along over 60 miles of London's roads and only be accessible to
vehicles of International Olympic Committee
(IOC) members, athletes and other officials between accommodation and
venues. It is estimated that the special lanes will be used by around
82 thousand people during the Games and cost £25 million to run.
Mr.Hugh Sumner, director of transport at the Olympic Delivery Authority
recently said at his speech at London City Hall that drivers may face
penalties of up to £5,000 for
driving in the Olympic lanes. ( Is that really possible?!!) He further
mentioned that more likely the fines will be around £200 that can be
reduced to £100 in case of a prompt payment. This is something to really think about....
Spend the Olympics with Sally Gunnell.
Is the Olympics accommodation offer to expensive for you? Why don't you stay with Sally Gunnell?
The 1992 Barcelona Olympic 400 metres hurdles gold medallist just announced that she will make the Gunnell family farm in Chigwell, Essex, available to 1,300 caravans for the duration of the London Olympics and Paralympics. She will do that with the help of the Caravan Club.
The idea came at the Boat and Caravan Show in Birmingham when someone from the Caravan Club mentioned that they were looking for temporary sites in the area. Sally's family happen to have a farm just six miles from the Olympic Park in Stratford and less than 15 minutes away by tube.
Sally -- a former world record holder and the only woman to hold Olympic, European, world, and Commonwealth 400m hurdles titles at the same time -- attributes her achievements on the track to the outdoor life she led as a child running up and down her family farm's fields.
With the accommodation prices expected to soar during the Olympics, Gunnell says she is delighted to be doing her bit to make the Games more affordable. A spot at Gunnell's farm will cost £25 to £30 a night and the site will be open from July 25 until Sept 11, 2012. Sally herself is also planning to move with her husband and three sons into a caravan during the Games to experience the Olympic atmosphere.
Accommodation for 2012 Olympic Sailors has been Completed
During the 2012 Olympic Games, sailing competition will take place in Weymouth Bay and
Portland Harbour. The athletes will be accommodated by a development of 77 houses of Athletes' Village. The major structural
work on the development that has been completed on September 13 and the Osprey Quay in Dorset held a special
celebratory event to mark that completion. The developer expects the completion of the internal
fit out of the houses and the landscaping of the site by January 2012 -- about half a year ahead before the sailing competition begins.
Tickets, Tickets, Tickets...
One million tickets to the most important Olympic events were
supposed to go on sale, in December. However the most recent news is
that the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games just announced
a delay of four month. The "lucky" ones who will get the tickets will
be forced to book travel and accommodation just a few weeks ahead of the
events. That means paying higher prices as they are very likely to
climb as the Games draw closer.
On the bright side, Coca‑Cola, the proud partner of the
London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is giving away in October fantastic VIP
experiences which will also include tickets to the spectacular Opening and
Closing Ceremonies. In addition to the entry to the events the daily giveaways will also include accommodation in a five star London hotel, full
hospitality, and a travel contribution for a group of four.
Planning to visit London in 2012?
Anyone planning to visit London for the 2012 Games are being urged to book their accommodation early. Prestige sporting events are
one of the key drivers of hotel prices and usually lead to increases, as many rugby fans recently found out in New Zealand.
What happened in New Zealand this year and what happened in South
Africa last year provides a foretaste for what will occur in London next
year. Although several thousand additional hotel rooms will be
available in the city for the 2012 Olympics this is not going to satisfy
the expected demand for accommodation. Despite the extra capacity the
accommodation prices will soar the closer we get to the event. Therefore anyone planning to come to London next summer should take care of their accommodation as soon
as they can.
Haymarket Hotel Fully Booked
The Haymarket Hotel on Piccadilly Circus with nightly rates of £300 per a
double room has just been taken over by Deloitte. The financial
services firm is blowing a fortune on the extraordinary three-week
booking of the hotel. The lavish building will be used for guests of the
accountants and
restructuring experts. The Tier 2 Olympics sponsor, Deloitte, is taking
all 50 rooms, including 17
suites, for 21 nights. Deloitte sees the booking as a "good business
planning" considering the expected high demand for rooms during the
Games. According to Wikipedia, Deloitte has approximately 182,000 staff
at work in over 150 countries, offering audit, tas, enterprise risk, and
other financial advice.
