What to do around the house: Grand Lake is a mountain tourist town about 2 hours from Denver and there are several places to rent boats, jet skis, pontoon boats, ATV's, snowmobiles or even go horseback riding. During summer, fall and spring the Rocky Mountain National park is also open and the entrance to the park is only about a mile from Grand Lake, you can take a drive into the park to look for wildlife or for a picnic. Summer (June-Aug.) in Grand Lake offers many things to do. Our family has spent a lot of time in Grand Lake since 2005 in all 4 seasons. We really enjoy the many hiking trails, playing mini-golf, fishing, boating, water skiing, horse back riding, bowling, evening bon fires, walking through the many shops in town and just relaxing. Grand Lake also has an acclaimed Repretory Theatre with live acting and shows all summer long. There is also golfing, fly fishing, mountain biking, rafting, atv and dirt bike trails right in the immediate Grand Lake area. Nearby you can also find white water rafting, hot air balloon rides, an outdoor shooting range. The 4th of July the fireworks are displayed over the lake and can be seen for miles. There are places you can rent speed boats, pontoon boats or jet skis real close. Fall (Sept.-Oct.) brings the change in color of the trees and the area is vibrant with yellow, orange, red and green added to the beauty of the mountains and lakes. The fall is beautiful because the weather is starting to change, the mountain air smells good and it warms in the day and cools in the night. There are still plenty of things to do in the fall. In the fall our family still love's to hike, boat, fish, play mini-golf, go bowling, evening bon fires and walk around town. Winter (Dec.- Feb.)is snowmobile season in Grand Lake. Ther eare places to rent snowmobiles and have guided tours and evrything. Grand Lake is considered one of the top ten best snowmobiling areas in the United States. There are over 150 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and over 200 miles of ungroomed trails in the area. Our Coachman house sits just off highway 4 which is the main road to the Idleglenn staging area for snowmobilers. The house is only about 2 miles from the Idleglenn staging area. Snow skiing is not far away. The closest place is Sol Vista in Granby, only about 15 minutes from the coachman house. Sol Vista has mostly green runs and is a beginner area for kids and family's. Our family also loves to go sledding and there is a great sledding hill right in town. We also love bowling at the local bowling alley. Ice fishing is also very popular and there are ice fishing tournaments on the lakes. Snow shoeing, cross county skiing and sleigh rides are also popular in the winter. Spring (March-May) is not a very good time of year as not much is going on and it is considered mud season. |
